The presentation will focus on the future of space exploration and Italy's contribution. The main programs will be illustrated, starting with the post-ISS (International Space Station), whose de-orbiting is scheduled for 2030, the Artemis project for the stable return of humans to the Moon, and the future landing on Mars. The role of Italy and the ASI will also be highlighted in both bilateral and multilateral regional agreements/projects of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Union.
Polymeric additive manufactured components have a non-homogeneous structure. VAT – photopolymerisation method provide a layered structure, while the Fused Deposition Modeling technique provide a structure with some voids. However, the Fracture Mechanics concepts are applied successfully to these class of materials. The presentation will highlight the application of Theory of Critical Distance and Strain Energy Density for assessing the fracture loads of polymeric AM notched components.
This talk deals with the recent research activities carried out within my research group and focusing on the application of AI for the design of AM components. In particular, AI has been applied to support the design against fatigue failures of metal AM parts, with the developed algorithms providing the fatigue response starting from the manufacturing process parameters. In particular, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) have been exploited to incorporate physical constraints, to enhance the consistency of the outcomes ... (more details)
Advanced manufacturing is a key enabler of sustainable industrial transformation, promoting resource efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and circular economy approaches. Metal additive manufacturing (AM) illustrates this potential by improving material efficiency and enabling the repair or remanufacturing of high-value components. ... (more details)
